Thai Airways orders aircraft worth £2.4bn

Thai Airways has announced plans to acquire 37 new aircraft over the next six years at a cost of £2.4bn.

The airline will buy six Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and five A320-200s for delivery from 2014 and four A350-900s for delivery from 2016. It will lease a further 22 aircraft.

The new aircraft will be used on intercontinental, regional and short-haul routes.

Thai Airways said the new planes would enable it to be "in the top three leading airlines in Asia and top five leading airlines in the world, both in terms of quality and services efficiency".
